Hax fun with the Dragon distro
Ok today we are going to look at deploying Kali 2013.3. The install process for this is fairly standard and familiar from previous version but for those new to this world, it seems like a good place to start.
Install Procedure (Virtual Machine)
Boot from the ISO
Select Graphical Install
Select your language (you might want to consider your operational security here)
Here we set location (again think opsec)
The keyboard type (opsec opesec)
Hostname entry (for opsec kali probably isn’t a great name on the network if this is going to be deployed into someone’s corpnet)
Enter the local namespace as environment requires.
Enter a username (again for opsec purposes you might want to not use your own name/handle)
Same as before (this is the actual username parameter)
Enter a password (again think from a forensic pov what this is)
Now here we have disk options. You need to balance your position here and consider the whole environment as to how you ensure data at rest encryption. You can use LVM or you may want to use other methods (e.g. VM based encryption)
Choose the partition scheme. Here I’m going for defaults.
Click Continue when you are happy.
Write the changes to disk.
Now we need to select the packages and desktop manager for this we are going to leave defaults, if you change the desktop environment you will need an internet connection, or you may have issues after install.
Now we wait for the install to complete.
The final config is to deploy GRUB. Click CONTINUE
Select /dev/sda and click Continue
The install is now complete. Click continue
Powering Up
Great you have now installed Kali 2021.3
Summary
Ok so far all is standard, we’ll go for a spin and see what is new but that’s for another post!
